Specialist Wheelchair Service

This service exists to facilitate access to the educational curriculum, where there is an identified need for a powered wheelchair and a specialist manual wheelchair, but the NHS can only supply one wheelchair, or when there is a difference of opinion between parents and mobility centres regarding the model of wheelchair that meets identified needs.

The information supplied on the application form is part of the assessment process. The Specialist Wheelchair Panel will not pay for equipment unless the application has been approved beforehand.

Applications for replacement equipment will not be considered within 3 years, unless there are exceptional circumstances (e.g. significant deterioration of an applicant's condition).
