Cedar Class

Cedar Class communication and physical development

Communication and Cognition: We have focused on spelling our own names, learning Makaton signs, colourful semantics and number recognition. We've been on trips that match our topics for each term, such as the House of Marbles for movement and direction, and the Donkey Sanctuary when we learned about animals. We've also all been practicing using our voices, signs and other ways of communicating to create 3-word sentences to make requests because we're very clever!

Physical Development: We've gained a new set of get-set-go blocks in the Cedar Garden which has helped us to build our strength and balance while we play. We've really enjoyed finding ways to climb on and through these! We've all been practicing walking up and down the stairs independently, as well as riding our trikes in the big garden once the weather was nice.

Sensory Experiences: We have been working on regulating our bodies and choosing things that we need to help us feel calm like weighted blankets, sensory lights and stretchy toys. The new calm room has given us a safe space to go when we need some quiet, and we have been able to fill this up with soft flooring, bean bags, a sensory light up curtain and different sensory toys thanks to the Moose Charity. We've also enjoyed lots of sensory stories linked to our topics, including a story about a vet and how he looks after all the animals.
